Niche AI Validation Framework: The 4-Filter Test

Is your AI idea actually a business? Use the 4-Filter Test to validate your niche before you write a single line of code.

With thousands of AI startups launching every week, the competition is fierce. To succeed, you need to find a niche that is "defensible." Here is the 4-Filter Test for validating your AI business idea.

Filter 1: The "High Cost of Manual Labor" Test

Does this task currently take a human more than 2 hours a day? If the manual cost is low, the AI substitution value is low. Target high-friction, repetitive tasks.

Filter 2: The "Data Availability" Test

Do you have access to a unique dataset? If you're just using the same data as everyone else (general web crawl), you don't have a moat. Proprietary data is the ultimate defensibility.

Filter 3: The "Regulated or Boring" Test

Is the industry regulated (Law, Finance) or "boring" (Logistics, Construction)? These sectors have high barriers to entry, meaning fewer competitors.

Filter 4: The "Workflow Integration" Test

Can you build your AI into the existing software the user already uses? AI is most valuable when it's invisible and integrated, not when it's another tab to open.

    The Result

If your idea passes all 4 filters, you've found a high-value, defensible AI niche. This is where the real "MicroSaaS" winners are built.
